A: Warm fingerless gloves increase comfort without sacrificing dexterity. Compared to full-finger alternatives such as liner gloves, the best fingerless gloves offer a massive dexterity boost, while only sacrificing a small amount of total warmth.

A: A properly fitting glove or mitten will have about ¼ inch of material at the end of your outstretched fingers. When you make a fist, the fit should not be too tight or restrictive.

A: A combination of two or three different pairs is best when heading to higher altitudes. A thin hiking pair for milder days or when you're on the ascent, a durable thicker option for when you stop or the weather worsens, and/or a pair of lightweight mitts as an emergency backup or if you really feel the cold.

A: Gloves should fit tightly in the beginning, as they stretch out and adjust to your hand size over time. When you put on your gloves for the first time, slightly bend your fingers backwards. If a slight crease occurs by your knuckles (see picture), you'll know that you have the right glove size.

A: If you are going to extreme cold or high altitude, then a tight-fitting glove can restrict blood flow which could be really bad news for your fingers. Gloves that are too big are difficult to use and any toasty air that your hands have worked hard to warm up will get squished out as your hand slides around inside.
